Carrie Waley | Chief Executive

Carrie was born in Beijing.  She was educated and grew up in Hong Kong, where she worked in public relations and the media sector for a number of years, before settling in the UK in the early 1990’s.

Carrie has been involved in education-related work for several years. Through her own education agency, Carrie has helped hundreds of Chinese students to find suitable courses and obtain visas to study in the UK.  Her company also provides pastoral care.

Having gained a solid reputation with British institutions through her work in the field of education and training, she brings these same skills to bear in her specialist recruitment business, Cathay Specific.  In the last few years, Cathay Specific has helped many UK healthcare providers to solve their staff needs by recruiting for them top quality Chinese healthcare workers.  Carrie also works very closely with Chinese companies and businesses outside China as their consultant.  It is through this work that Carrie has realised the advantages for companies to employ Mandarin speaking staff to achieve their business development goals.  Carrie has also been impressed by the quality of the work that was carried out by her Chinese recruits, she believes Chinese staff are the best employees when it comes to reliability, dedication, determination and the willingness to learn.

Carrie is fully conversant with both Chinese and British culture.  She speaks and writes fluent Mandarin and Cantonese as well as English and is uniquely equipped to bridge the linguistic and cultural divide between China and the West.
